The talk will examine the manifold challenges of translating into English Mend The Living -- French author Maylis De Kerangal's highly original novel on organ transplant and its far-reaching effects. The talk will discuss how the narrative addresses thorny ethical issues concerning the boundaries between life and death, which contemporary medical technologies have made both mobile and blurry. The conversation will also provide the opportunity to reflect on ideas of human health, vulnerability and the elaboration of trauma and loss.
