Adapting Gertrude Stein to the Stage with Anna Chatterton

In this talk Anna Chatterton will speak to the process of making the Governor General's Literary Award nominated play Gertrude and Alice (co-written with Evalyn Parry and devised with director Karin Randoja). The play used a combination of Gertrude Stein's and Alice B.Toklas's writing as well as original text in the tone of these writer's voices. Anna will also discuss on her experience of adapting novels, short stories and opera libretti to the stage.
Anna Chatterton is a two-time finalist for the Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama. Her plays have been produced by The Shaw Festival, Tarragon Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Passe Muraille, Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, Theatre Centre, Nightwood Theatre and CBC Podcast/PlayMe. Other achievements include: a Toronto Theatre Critics Award; a City of Hamilton Theatre Award; the Gilded Hammer National Achievement Award; named a Top Ten Theatre Artist by NOW Magazine; a finalist for the Hamilton Literary Award and nominated for five Dora Mavor Moore Awards, winning one. Anna has been playwright in residence at Tarragon Theatre, Nightwood Theatre, Tapestry Opera and the National School of Canada.
