McLaughlin College and University of Toronto Press invite you to a belated celebration of the UN World Day of Social Justice with a panel discussion and book launch for The Institutions of Human Rights edited by Gordon DiGiacomo and Susan L. Kang. Written from a global perspective, the book examines international human rights institutions, procedures, and select issues. The UN’s World Day of Social Justice recognizes “that social development and social justice are indispensable for the achievement and maintenance of peace and security within and among nations and that … social justice cannot be attained in the … absence of respect for all human rights and fundamental freedoms.” The Institutions of Human Rights examines the issues and barriers that exist in realizing respect for all of our most fundamental human rights and freedoms.
A light lunch and refreshments will be served.
Panelists will include:
James C. Simeon, an Associate Professor and Head of McLaughlin College at York University
Gordon DiGiacomo, a Senior Fellow with the Centre on Governance at University of Ottawa
Tuesday, February 26th, 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm, Senior Common Room, 140 McLaughlin College.
