COMN 3551: Advanced Issues in Digital Media and Culture (Winter 2020)

Melodie Cardin, a PhD Candidate and an Instructor in the School of Journalism and Communication at Carleton University will be presenting The Biopolitics of Prenatal Testing on Tuesday Feb. 25, 8:30am-11:30am in VC 103.

Today, the use of prenatal testing technologies such as ultrasound, amniocentesis and the relatively new Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) allow prospective parents to identify, classify and potentially terminate fetuses diagnosed with what are characterized as disabilities. In this talk, Melodie Cardin looks at the discourses that function to make these choices seem normative.
