Marcia Johnson will read from her play Say Ginger Ale, discuss its transition from radio drama to stage play. She will talk about the representation of immigrant and black characters in Toronto theatre. Say Ginger Ale tells the story of Nadia; A Jamaican-born Canadian who balks whenever there is the suggestion that she might miss her “home”. When she makes an unexpected trip to Jamaica, she re-connects with a childhood friend whose life is very different from hers. Nadia realizes that she was holding on to negative feelings about Jamaica. The visit allows her to rediscover and reclaim it.

Marcia will also read from her work-in-progress Heavy is the Head.
Join us for a conversation with the playwright!
