Should there be any limits to freedom of speech at universities? In 2018, the Government of Ontario issued a directive to all colleges and universities in Ontario to develop policies on free speech that “will not only protect free speech but ensure that hate speech, discrimination and other illegal forms of speech are not allowed on campus.” In response to this directive York University set out its policy on free speech here:
