I want to extend a warm invitation for everyone to attend our next session of Historian's Craft in the History Department Common Room on Thursday, February 1st from 12:30 pm - 2:15 pm. Our guest speaker will be the History Department's very own Dr. Rachel Koopmans. Her talk is entitled "The Archive Isn’t the Half of it: Historians and the Study of Visual Sources and Material Objects." Some of the most interesting and innovative historical research being done today is centered on non-textual source material, on items held in museums, galleries, and institutions rather than in archives. For historians trained in textual analysis, a focus on visual sources and material objects presents strikingly new and energizing opportunities, but it also requires the development of new attitudes and new skill sets. In this talk, Dr. Koopmans will share tips, insights, and methodologies for working with non-textual sources utilizing her own experiences venturing into the study of stained glass.

Please consider joining us for what promises to be an excellent and thought-provoking discussion with Dr. Koopmans. Some light refreshments will also be available for everyone who attends the talk.

Best, Jason C.
