Guest speaker biography:
• Jay Singer, BA, English 1996, President at Twelve Strings Consulting and Ex- President and CEO at Discount Car & Truck Rentals
Singer is the former President and CEO of Discount Car and Truck Rentals, which was purchased by Enterprise Holdings Inc. owner of Enterprise Rent-A-Car in 2019.
During his eight-year tenure as president of Discount, Singer oversaw 1,300+ employees, $500 million+ in fleet assets and had a track record of 250% revenue growth and 500% profit growth. Remarkably, he turned around the fortunes of this very in-person business during the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, bringing the company to profitability within 90 days of the arrival of the virus in Canada.
After sixteen years in the car and truck rental industry, Singer recently launched his own consultancy (Twelve String Consulting) to share his expertise with other organizations.
Singer graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from York University in 1996. He also earned an MFA from New York University in 1998 and an MBA from Fordham Gabelli School of Business in 2004. He believes in the power of a liberal arts education to shape and heighten our thinking for business and every other life endeavour.
